Congrats to all the artists playing the Hip-Hop/Urban Stage!

Every year we strive to make Boise Music Festival better. This year we put a focus on how we could better showcase all of the incredible local talent in the Treasure Valley. In addition to the awesome Commercial Tire Main Stage, we'll have four local stages around Expo Idaho with a little of something for everyone.

  • Chandler Fehr (11:30-11:50a)

Chandler Fehr is a passionate artist originally from Montana, but has been living in Idaho for about 12 years. 17-years-old he first found his love for rap by listening to the original. He dove into artists like Eminem, Notorious B.I.G, Nas, and Kanye West. So, in 2013 Chandler released his first rap EP under the stage name, "Amplified Truth". The EP was entitled "Pilot" and is currently up on itunes and spotify. Then, Chandler took a break from rapping and focused on writing spoken word poetry. He performed around town, but mainly at churches around the valley. Since then, Chandler has changed his life completely and has found a new sound in his music. Being influenced by today's greats, Childish Gambino, Logic, Dizzy Wright, Nicki Minaj, and Kendrick Lamar, Chandler loves good flow, honesty, and wordplay. More than anything, he also loves underground rappers like Phora, Jeff Turner, Jzac, Emoney, and The Remnant. With his new self titled EP, "Apathetic: the Mixtape" (available on bandcamp) Chandler loves rap more now than he has ever before.

  • Auzomatik (12:05-12:30p)

After an entire year of therapy with still some paralysis to this day in his hands he has successfully been able to share his love of music and able to DJ better than ever. With a deep passion for all genres and forms of music he blends everything from hip-hop to trap, glitch and other bass music with classic rock and blues into a flurry of on the fly mash-ups and remixes. Auzomatik creates unique sets through scratching, beat juggling and controllerism to make his own sound that energizes the crowd every time he plays. If you are looking for Idaho's best look no further than Boise's own Auzomatik!!

  • Magic Mic (12:45-1:15p)

Magic Mic, born and primarily raised in Boise, Idaho, is a motivated hip-hop artist with ambitions to work hip-hop into many different genres with lyrical tact. Magic is heavily driven to impress upon a diverse fan base, and bring local Idaho music to the national music scene through his hip-hop.

Growing up with a father in the military, Magic often traveled around the country, and for a couple years lived in Los Angeles, California and Jacksonville, Florida. In these travels and relocations, Magic was introduced to lots of different cultures and genres of music, including hip-hop. He also found a deep rooted passion for poetry and writing. During Jr. High and High School, he competitively played basketball, and through fellow teammates was heavily exposed to a variety of hip-hop music, especially in California and Florida, which greatly inspired his growing musical taste.

Growing up through his teenage years, Magic used poetry primarily as a creative outlet. However, he always wanted to make influential music as a lyricist and greatly admired song writers such as Dave Matthews and John Mayer. After going through difficult personal times following his Freshman year of college, he found a transition to hip-hop and rap in early 2010 after being heavily inspired by Kid Cudis debut album Man On the Moon: The End of Day.

Magic started to hone his lyrical skills and spent many long days alone working to perfect his craft. After releasing two mixtapes in 2012, The Magical Music Mixtape, and Blowin Smoke On Shadows, and a music video to his first locally recognized single, The New Name, Magic began working with the growing Idaho promotional company All Access Boise in late spring of 2013. Through this, Magic was given his first big stage opportunity at Revolution Concert House opening for Mickey Avalon and Futuristic at the 2013 Boise Music Festival after party. He was a natural on the stage, and through local promotion and fan support, continued to receive big name opening acts throughout the rest of 2013 and into 2014 including Snoop Dogg, Machine Gun Kelly, Chance The Rapper, Zion I, Snow Tha Product, Caskey, Mickey Avalon, Myke Bogan, Sol, and more. Magic was also selected for Boise Nusic Festival 2014. In late 2014, Magic released his latest studio mixtape, "Lighters & Spiral Notebooks", and in early 2015 was selected to the Treefort Music Festival lineup.

Back in the summer of 2013, Magic started a team behind him called The Tree Department Music Group or TDMG. Currently the group includes Magic, DJ Dvngerousbirdz, and Magic's long time backup singer Miss Katie. This team is dedicated to achieving goals they have for themselves and the Boise music scene, as well as to represent a more universal musical stand behind hip-hop. Magic is a refreshing lyrical new age hip-hop artist, combined with old school rap foundations. The ultimate goal of Magic Mic music is to provide a different style hip-hop sound, while still creating classic rap music. There have been some early accomplishments from the Boise rapper, but much more is expected from the new artist and his team. Its truly safe to say that we will continue to hear much more of Magic Mics music as his career unfolds.

  • Holistic Meditation & Emcee Monkey D (3:00-3:30p)

  • Dedicated Servers (3:45-4:15p)

When Dedicated Servers first formed, the anonymity of their music group’s name sparked speculation behind its true meaning. Particularly, some questioned just exactly how “dedicated” they were to their craft.

Nine years later, MCMD and DTF (Dave the Fave, formerly peanut) continue, unintentionally, to live the definition of dedication. In an age where more than few musicians strive for instant gratification rather than longevity, the high school friends continue to maintain their pen game through countless songs and collaborations, whether cooperatively or individually. Aside from MCMD and DTF’s personal lives and their collaborative music efforts, they have expanded their repertoire into DJ’ing various events (particularly weddings) and establishing themselves as solo artists. DTF even released his own solo project, but the two have assured that Dedicated Servers shall continue to create the finest hip hop music Boise has ever heard.

The best way to describe the Dedicated Servers sound is to take the music of A Tribe Called Quest, Atmosphere, Kanye West, Postal Service, De La Soul, Eminem, Nujabes, and Clipse, and throw them in a blender. Taking cues from their local peers, they have refined their traditional hip hop sound to something a little more melodic.

Dedicated Servers’ most recent release is “Bryan Taylor”, a collection of songs that finds the two in a gloomier place than normal. The peculiarly-titled album is their most honest to date, with all production handled by themselves, but with of course, the aid of some of their talented friends they’ve made along their journey.

In a genre where selling dope is respected, the Dedicated Servers create to sell hope. Hope for those searching, whether it’s true love or good grades or victory or the light at the end of the tunnel or whatever. The world is a struggle, and for many, there are few places to go when it feels like everything is crashing. The DS strive to be a testament that through persistence, patience, and perseverance, anybody can take ownership of their situation and make something better of it.

Dedicated Servers have opened shows for Lupe Fiasco, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Brother Ali, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Dessa, Mega Ran, Turbo T. Double, and many more. They have expanded their local collaborations from the hip hop sounds of Oso Negro to the synth-happy grooves of Dirty Moogs, and have shared their live performances beyond their hometown of Boise, ID to Oregon, California, Utah, and Minneapolis. Dedicated Servers look to expand their shows further and further from home and remain dedicated by continuously creating new music for the underdogs of the world.
